A Story Of Guardians

There was a story I heard about several months ago about a missionary who had to travel for a couple of days to get supplies. It meant that he had to camp overnight in order to make the journey. He had occasion to patch up a young man who was in a fight.

On his next trip, the young man approached him and told him he knew he carried cash with him and had followed him to his overnight camping spot along with a couple of other friends. He said his intention was to rob and kill him but he had 26 guards with him.

But, the missionary told the young man he was alone but the young man insisted that he had 26 guards with him so they decided not to try and rob or kill him. The story goes on to tell how the missionary, upon returning to his home church, told this story and immediately one man in the congregation stood and told him that he had an overpowering urge to pray for him. This man called other parishioners who also prayed for his safety, and when asked to stand, the minister counted 26 men in total. The power of God acts in mysterious ways.

There are many stories that recount the mysterious powers of God and each one of these stories is left unexplained in normal worldly terms.

Throughout life, we are often confronted with situations that test our belief, test our resolve and test our Christian spirit.

One can solve not everything alone nor can we expect that others of this world have the answers that we sorely need. Life has a way of presenting problems, difficulties and challenges that far supercede our own abilities but with the help of God through prayer, these issues can be put behind us.

Such is the case with the untimely death of a loved one where sorrow is deep and the pain great. But, knowing that your loved one is now in the hands of God can help ease the pain. Some people are called to be with God far too soon for our liking but God needs them with him.

The mysteries of the power of God was highlighted to me a few short months ago when we were leaving a funeral home in the middle of a winter snowstorm. We had planned to drive home straight away after attending the funeral home with friends but a strange and mysterious event caused us not to. As we were about to drive away in the storm, the passenger window fell to the bottom of the window well and would not operate again. The window was wide open allowing all the snow and cold to pelt us. It seems strange that this event happened at this point.

Instead of going home, we had to drive to a garage to see if we could get the window repaired. What also happened was that the friends we were with asked us to go for supper instead of going home. And, as it turns out, this was the best choice for a number of reasons. The main reason was that our friends really needed our support at this time during a very difficult time in their lives. If the window had not fallen and became inoperable, we would not have lent our support as desperately needed. God works in strange ways to be sure.

Rest with God; let God be your passage and comfort towards understanding and your companion through all life's challenges.
