Our own troubles sometimes weigh heavily upon us. If we let them, our troubles can drag us down to the extent that we are anything but cheerful. We can become consumed by our own issues and when this happens our happiness slides downward. We All Have Them Everyone faces troubles or challenges at some point in their lives. If you compared your troubles, or challenges, with those of others, you would surely find that there are those whose troubles make yours look like minor inconvenience. We sometimes feel like we are the only ones experiencing difficulties. But there are many who face much larger challenges than we do. If we stopped and looked at that for a minute it would put our challenge in perspective. The Man Who Had No Shoes We have all heard the story of the person who felt sorry for himself because he had no shoes, but then met the man who had no feet. A Different Way To Face Challenges If you spend your energy helping someone else, by cheering up someone else, you may give them hope, and, you actually minimize and lighten some of your own burdens. You'll feel a lot better when you share your happiness with someone else. You will find that you may still be faced with an issue but it will not be consuming all of your thoughts. By helping others, by taking that break from your own problems you may find that a solution will appear in your mind. Sometimes when we take a break we may find that solutions then present themselves. Go To Zero When faced with a challenge, a dear friend of mine offers his wisdom to me by saying, "go to zero." What he means is that sometimes when you focus to long on an issue you won't find a solution. But when you step away and then go back to the problem your mind has had a rest and it will find the answer. And what a better way to step away from your problem than to help someone else. I also believe in the wisdom of the saying: "What goes around comes around". When you help others it does come back to you. So the next time you are feeling down or overwhelmed help someone else. |
