The latest is coaching, and leadership. When the concept was first discussed, we bought books, read articles, basically anything we could get our hands on. A lot of what we read, though, cited models with a lot of theory and full of jargon.
Our own experience proved to be most valuable as we moved from managers to coaches. Now, a few years later, we feel the coaching method is our preferred style. The benefits and advantages of being a coach outweigh the job of a manager many times over! Coaching a team, encouraging teamwork, does bring results.
As we talk with our friends, however, we realize there are still people
struggling with the concept of the coach as leader.
