Quitting Is Not The Way
Poet:
, © 2012

Go ahead and quit, if you can’t see it through.
But don’t come crying to me, when quitting is all you do.
Those who start to quit, when things start getting tough.
Start to see quitting, as a way to get out of stuff.

They never stick things through, and can’t complete a thing.
Is this the type of person, you see yourself being?
Quitters never win, no matter what you’ve heard.
Have you ever heard a quitter, that is picked to be referred?

Of course that would be silly, why would someone refer?
Someone who can’t even accomplish, they are their own saboteurs.
Next time you want to quit, think who you want to be.
Quitters never win, I want more than this for thee.

I want to see success, surround you every day.
I want you to be happy, and want to scream hooray!
I want you in a job, that makes you’re world so good.
I want the work you do, feel just like childhood.

But most of all I want, to see you see things through.
But not because you should, because you really want too.
And I realize you may be scared, that you can’t see it through.
But I’m hear to tell you, you can, do anything you put your mind to.

“Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one-yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game, one foot from a winning touch down.” Ross Perot

Don’t Give It Up
Poet: Z. Vujcic, © 2007

Today life gave you another slap
but don’t give it up
throwing your towel in the ring
for things gone wrong, for words that sting
‘cos there must be another way
you will see it in the light of another day
When everything seems sour, not in your favour
look around until you find better flavour
so, don’t just give but live it up
pick up the pieces, be tough
grind your teeth and turn another cheek
don’t give it up, that’s exactly what they seek
It’s too easy to walk away
quitter never wins so you should better stay
look challenges straight in the eye
don’t say yet the last good-bye
fight like an animal in a trap
but don’t give it up

“Most people who succeed in the face of seemingly impossible conditions
are people who simply don’t know how to quit.”
Robert Schuller

On Quitting
Poet: Edgar A. Guest, © 2007

How much grit do you think you’ve got?
Can you quit a thing that you like a lot?
You may talk of pluck; it’s an easy word,
And where’er you go it is often heard;
But can you tell to a jot or guess
Just how much courage you now possess?

You may stand to trouble and keep your grin,
But have you tackled self-discipline?
Have you ever issued commands to you
To quit the things that you like to do,
And then, when tempted and sorely swayed,
Those rigid orders have you obeyed?

Don’t boast of your grit till you’ve tried it out,
Nor prate to men of your courage stout,
For it’s easy enough to retain a grin
In the face of a fight there’s a chance to win,
But the sort of grit that is good to own
Is the stuff you need when you’re all alone.

How much grit do you think you’ve got?
Can you turn from joys that you like a lot?
Have you ever tested yourself to know
How far with yourself your will can go?
If you want to know if you have grit,
Just pick out a joy that you like, and quit.

It’s bully sport and it’s open fight;
It will keep you busy both day and night;
For the toughest kind of a game you’ll find
Is to make your body obey your mind.
And you never will know what is meant by grit
Unless there’s something you’ve tried to quit.

Take A Walk
Poet: Helen Welshimer

When you’re criticizing others and are finding here and there
A fault or two to speak of, or a weakness you can tear;
When you’re blaming someone’s meanness or accusing one of pelf –
It’s time that you went out to take a walk around yourself.

There’s lots of human failures in the average of us all,
And lots of grave shortcomings in the short ones and the tall;
But when we think of evils men should lay upon the shelves,
It’s time we all went out to take a walk around ourselves.

We need so often in this life this balancing set of scales,
Thus seeing how much in us wins and how much in us fails;
But before you judge another – just to lay them on the shelf –
It would be a splendid plan to take a walk around yourself.
