A Flawed Marriage Plan
Poet: Greta Zwaan, © 2018

It’s not the first time you’ve been wrong, as you can testify,
You’ve tried to figure out the cause and wound up wondering why.
You did good research on your plan; you followed every guide;
You made decisions, followed through, and set concerns aside.

With research done so thoroughly, with every fact in line,
This venture had no cause to fail, this surefire, true design.
When others warned and gave advice, and said your plan was flawed,
You ought to give it deeper thought and bring your plans to God.

You scoffed and ridiculed their ways; there’s nothing can go wrong,
I’m doing things the way I want, I’ve done that all along.
But marriage isn’t black and white; it’s not a paper trail,
Not an agreement to transform a bond to no avail.

Two souls must seek the will of God to be a true success,
To walk together on life’s road and have God there to bless.
It’s not a blueprint minus flaws when two opinions strive,
But willingly you compromise to keep this love alive.

It’s not crossed T’s and dotted I’s and research to the core,
But willingness to give yourself, discovering what’s in store.
When love remakes two lives in one, together, as God planned,
Then paperwork is set aside as you walk hand in hand.

. . .the concept and roots of human marriage are in God's own action . . . Timothy Keller
But the concept and roots of human marriage are in God’s own action,
and therefore what the Bible says about God’s design for marriage is crucial.

Marriage Quotes

God Knows Best
Poet: John McLeod, ©

I wonder, friend, how often you have wept a bitter tear
And asked: “Why is this happening to me?”
“What step was taken wrongly to deserve this dreary fate,
What action brought about this tragedy?”
Only to find in time a vital reason for it all,
And faith you thought so steady put to test,
To look back with such wonder at the workings of his hands;
‘Dear Lord, Thy will be done, and God knows best.’

It happens to us all, we are so mortal and so weak
All too human in our strange an earthly ways,
Falling often by the wayside on our journey through this life
Seeking light and fighting ignorance’s haze.
Truly friends, the help is there, for as ye seek so ye shall find
And at journey’s end how well you shall be blessed
If you truthfully can say without a doubt within your heart
Dear Lord, Thy will be done, and God knows best!

It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. Psalm 18:32

Quotes about God

The Tides of Providence
Poet: Patience Strong

It’s not what you gather, but what you sow,
That gives the heart a warming glow.
It’s not what you get, but what you give,
Decides the kind of life you live.

It’s not what you have,
But what you spare.
It’s not what you take,
But what you share
That pays the greater dividend
And makes you richer in the end.

It’s not what you spend upon yourself
Or hide away upon a shelf,
That brings a blessing for the day.
It’s what you scatter by the way.

A wasted effort it may seem.
But what you cast upon the stream
Comes back to you recompense
Upon the tides of providence.

Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God can count the number of apples in a seed. Robert H. Schuller

but only God can count the number of apples in a seed.”

Miracle Quotes

Good Morning and God Bless
Poet: John McLeod, © 1989

Good morning and God bless
On this most wonderful of days
God given, lit by sunlight
Shafting down in golden rays.

The heart sings out its wondrous joy
In choir with birdsong sweet,
And all one’s love can employ
This beauteous day to greet.

Oh skies of azure
Blue as any skies could ever be,
How glad I am to meet this day
How well blessed to be me!

God's got a plan and it's all good.
“God’s got a plan and it’s all good.”
Inspirational Saying

Stand Up For The Faith
Poet: Greta Zwaan, © 1995

Can we still live so close to God
In a world that displays constant shame?
Dare we stand up for the teachings of Christ
To those who would blaspheme His name?

In a world where the rights of the Christians are shunned,
Attendance at church has declined:
And the “Gay Rights” movement parades through the streets,
Thinking peace in this lifestyle they’ll find.

Do we hide our witness under the guise
That each man can choose his own way?
A free moral agent to dream his own dreams,
Walking blindly, and going astray.

Why don’t we Christians rise up and proclaim
That man is a spirit and soul?
And one day accounting will have to take place,
Revealing each heart and each goal.

Made in the image of God, gone astray,
Lost in a life filled with sin.
Complacent, ignoring the will of the Lord,
Rejecting again and again.

Our purpose on earth is to honour the Lord;
We’re made for His joy and His praise.
In return He will bless us, abounding in love,
He’ll guide us through all of our days.

Examples of love: walking the road
That sometimes is lonely and hard,
Ready to help the down and the out,
Not fearing but having Christs guard.

Don’t let the world dictate how you live,
Stand up for the pure and the clean.
Rise up for your Lord, speak much of His love.
Be present, be heard and be seen.

I Asked
By Unknown Confederate soldier

I asked God for strength that I might achieve,
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey. . .

I asked for health, that I might do greater things,
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things. . .

I asked for riches that I might be happy,
I was given poverty that I might be wise. . .

I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men,
I was given weakness
that I might feel the need of God. . .

I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life,
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things. . .

I got nothing that I asked for-
but everything I had hoped for,
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men most richly blessed.

A Mystery In Human Hearts
Poet: Unknown

There is a mystery in human hearts,
And though we be encircled by a host
Of those who love us well and are beloved,
To every one of us, from time to time,
There comes a sense of utter loneliness.
Our dearest friend is “stranger” to our joy,
And cannot realize our bitterness.
“There is no one who really understands,
No one to enter into all I feel”;
Such is the cry of each of us in turn.
We wander in “a solitary way.”
No matter what or where our lot may be,
Each heart, mysterious even to itself,
Must live its inner life in solitude.
And would you know the reason why this is?
It is because the Lord desires our love,
In every heart He wishes to be first,
He therefore keeps the secret key Himself,
To open all its chambers and to bless
With perfect sympathy and holy peace,
Each solitary soul which comes to Him.
And when beneath some heavy cross you faint,
And say, “I cannot bear this alone,” you say the truth.
God made it purposely
So heavy that you must return to Him.
The bitter grief, which “no one understands,”
Conveys a secret message from the king,
Entreating you to come to Him again.
You cannot come too often or too near.
The God of mercy in infinite in grace,
His presence satisfies the longing soul
And those who walk with Him from day to day
Can never have “a solitary way.”

I Will Survive!
Poet: Greta Zwaan, © 1995

The night, so long, so eerie, my body craving sleep;
I’m weary, oh, so weary, I cannot even weep.
My limbs will not obey me, my eyes refuse to rest,
I realize the anguish, I’ve tried my very best.

I say, “I will not worry,” I know that God is near,
I know He’s always present and casts out every fear.
I know there will be healing, “But Lord,” I ask, “how long?”
By times my faith starts wavering, I feel I’m not that strong.

I need, I WANT, compassion, and to be understood,
I can’t sort out my anguish, I only wish I could.
My body is so broken, my willpower almost gone,
I feel my strength is waning, I simply can’t go on.

It’s at that very moment, when pain seems in control,
When life has little meaning, there is no future goal,
That peace and love surround me, that prayers are being heard,
That God has not forgotten, He’s faithful to His Word.

In this time of testing He’s clearly by my side,
He’s faithful, He’s trustworthy, forever He’ll abide.
Someday there will be healing, I feel it in my heart,
Right now I’m needing patience, for God will do His part.

Together we’ll get through this, I know I will survive!
For this I am rejoicing! I’m glad to be alive! More Inspirational Poems:    Inspirational Poems Page 1     Inspirational Poems Page 2    Inspirational Poems Page 3   . . . .   Inspirational Poems Page 5    Inspirational Poems Page 6
