Pray for Your Children

Author: , (c) 2012

What do you wish for your children? If you are like thousands of parents around the globe, you will want them to grow with the word of God as one of their most valued treasures.

In a child's life, there are so many things for them to learn, to confront and to know how to deal with all those worldly issues that will arise as they go through life.

You will pray for their educational needs that they be fulfilled so that they may make informed decisions of what they will do. You will desire them to be treated fairly, to be valued for their own uniqueness, and for their potential.

You can pray for your children at any time no matter where or when. You can pray for them while you are on your way to work, at the gym, or sitting quietly on your couch while reading a book.

You can't always be with your children to keep them from harm but you can always be with them through pray.

You can pray that each of your children will find a spouse that values them, treats them with respect and that your grandchildren will be raised within God's teachings.

Prayer is your constant source of asking for guidance, for endurance, for the strength to keep helping your children from their time in youth through their adult years, to be their for them as long as your remaining days.

You can pray for your children that they might also be there for you in your twilight years as their way of thanking you for all that you have done for them and with them.

Your investment in your children is a treasure that you will always hold dear and near to your hearts and pray keeps these feelings of love awake and alive.

Just the other day, I had the privilege; yes I said privilege, of baby-sitting my little granddaughter who is just a little over two-years old. And, do you know what came to mind? Very simply it was this.

I sat beside her on my daughter’s couch watching one of her favorite little shows. And, as she was watching it, she turned to me and said’ “Gramps, more please.” She was referring to my muffin that I was eating and I had already shared a little morsel with her. It was her quiet, calm, and loving voice that made me feel that I would do absolutely anything to protect her, to nourish her, and to give her all the loving she needed no matter when or where. It was my desire to keep her safe and wish for a beautiful life that unfolded through my eyes as she silently ate her little morsel of muffin. It was then that I quietly mouthed a prayer to God that I may help in my small way of being there for her for many years to come; that I would continue to play a part in her life that she valued, and a part that she would turn to as she grew older and needed to talk about anything that was either bothering her or she did not quite understand.

These are not just words from a grandparent who felt trapped into baby-sitting but from a loving grandparent who values every moment with her. It is not the same love and care given by my daughter and son-in-law, but a special love and bond that goes beyond expression.

The prayers of a parent for their child are those that seek to keep them safe, well, and protected. But, the prayers of a grandparent are to keep us well enough so we can continue to share in these special moments for many, many years to come.
