Is It Time To Quit That Day Job

Is It Time To Quit That Day Job

For literally thousands upon thousands of people, there is complete overwhelming dissatisfaction with their job. They go to work each day with thoughts of just getting the day over and returning home. There is no enjoyment, no challenge they look forward to, no spark to excite their inner needs, and absolutely no intention of ever returning but knowing full well that each workday they will appear because they have to. Does this sound familiar?

What Type of Job Do You Have
For those who find that their job is more a drudgery than a passion, there is a longing for something new and exciting, or different but mainly satisfying where they, at the very least, enjoy what they do. But, for many, many others, they instead long for their own business where they can be their own boss, control what they do, and reap all the benefits of their hard work instead of who they work for getting the benefit of all their labor.

If you are one of those people who really desire to quit your day job so that you can create your business and live a much different life, I can tell you this right up front. To wish for your business requires a lot more than you may be prepared to do. I am not discouraging you but only speaking from real experience.

Consider These Questions
Here are just a few questions to consider before quitting:

Are you a risk taker? This important because starting your own business does not guarantee immediate success.

Does your spouse support your desire to quit and start a business. If you do not have the emotional and personal support, you are already putting your foot in a hole and it will be an uphill battle all the way.

Do you have a business plan already laid out in complete detail? You cannot know where you are going if you don’t know where to go. A detailed plan is a must or you will end up going someplace else.

Are you able to easily survive financially for a minimum of six months without any money coming in from a start up business? You have to know that money doesn’t come in as if you are getting a steady paycheck and it is very common not to have money to pay your normal bills (without considering business bills) for many months.

Are you able to arrange and afford medical insurance that was previously paid for by your employer? A lot of people forget that they still must be medically covered and this is even more important when your only source of income will come from your business. For a lot of people starting out, you may be the only person doing the work – if you don’t work, or can’t, no money is earned.

Plan Don’t Wish
These are just a few things to consider, but with the appropriate planning you can think more about hope than wishing. Wishing doesn’t do a thing but taking concrete action gives you hope that a new life is just around the corner.

Inspirational Quotes for Reflection:
“The amount of action in your life can also depend on your ability to try new things.” Felix Oberman

“Often the difference between a successful man and a failure is not one’s better abilities or ideas but the courage that one has to bet on his ideas, to take a calculated risk — and act.” Maxwell Maltz

“. . . don’t listen to the defeatists. Instead, accept the encouragement of the hopeful, the optimistic, and the people who dream.” Helen Mayhew
