Who we are, is what we believe. As you were growing up, you may have been told over and over that you were good at doing something. You believed it.
Similarly, if you constantly tell people they are doing a good job, they will eventually believe it even if, in the beginning, they have doubts about their ability. In essence, we become what we believe.
You may find at some point in your life that you have a position where you can influence another person or persons to have a greater belief in themselves than they do at present, or are people who you realize need a little boost in their own self-esteem. You may be in the position to influence how your own child feels about their abilities. This isnít just a one-time task either for your counsel and encouragement
will be called on for many, many years in the future. This is a particular kind of role that requires you to support your child as they develop new skills and not to criticize them if they should at first fail. This is a special role that needs patience, encouraging words followed by positive actions that help them build their confidence as they attempt to conquer a new skill.
In The Working Environment
This assistance in the continued growth of self-esteem is also paramount in a working environment. It does not really matter what kind of work
you do, or if you are in a leadership role or not. One of the most valued support mechanisms is that of your colleagues. When a colleague tells you that you are developing your trade really well, for example when you are an apprentice and receive praise from a full journeyman, you take it to heart. This kind of influence and praise not only makes you feel that your abilities are being recognized but that you are worth speaking about from your own kind.
This kind of praise is also important when it is received from a leader or supervisor. It is also even more important that you not only be praised but that you are also given tips and suggestions to improve even more. Praise and positive suggestions work hand in hand to give your self-esteem a real boost. And, as you receive it so shall you pass praise on to those who also need a little encouragement. What you give, you receive and this applies to supporting and encouraging everyone around you.
And Do You Influence Yourself
Now, on the other hand, if you can influence and encourage someone else to believe in them, you should also learn to listen to your own positive words. You have complete control about what you think, what you believe, and how you act and behave. You are in the best position to know that you have abilities and talents and you are also the one who must exercise your own will to explore each of these talents and abilities more fully. You are your best supporter but you must also realize that you can also be your own worse nightmare if you allow yourself to be negatively influenced by others who do not encourage you or support you in on-going personal development.
If you find that you are doubting yourself, stop and reflect on all your past achievements. Be confident about yourself. Don't let other people erode your confidence. Successful people know that the greater their self-confidence, the greater their achievements.
Keep Your Thoughts Positive
Don't feed your mind with negative thoughts. If you do, you will come to believe them. The secret to self-confidence is to feed your mind with positive thoughts, and surround yourself with people who give you positive support!

Poetry about Believing in Yourself: Believe in Yourself
Poet: Edgar A Guest
Believe in yourself! Believe you were made
to do any task without calling for aid.
Believe, without growing too scornfully proud,
that you, as the greatest and least are endowed.
A mind to do thinking, two hands and two eyes
are all the equipment God gives to the wise.
Believe in yourself! You are divinely designed
and perfectly made for the work of mankind.
The truth you must cling to through danger and pain;
the heights others have reached you can also attain.
Believe to the very last hour, for it's true.
That what ever you will, you've been gifted to do.
Believe in yourself and step out unafraid.
By misgivings and doubt be not easily swayed.
You've the right to succeed; the precision of skill
which betokens the great you can earn if you will!
The wisdom of the ages is yours if you'll read.
But you've got to believe in yourself to succeed.
Believe in rewards that await you,
believe in the harvest in store.
Believe that the spring will awaken,
believe you'll be sowing once more.
Believe that there's a tomorrow,
where no one cares if you can't dance.
Believe in the future's promise,
each new day brings a new chance.
Believe you can make you goals happen,
they're just dreams with a deadline attached.
Believe that you have the power,
believe that you're more than a match.
Believe in a shared existence,
you're not alone this is true.
Believe that right now there is someone,
who believes in the wonder that's you.
