Yanni at the Acropolis

I sat watching the DVD of Yanni, Live at the Acropolis. It made me remember the first time I had heard Yanni's music. It was at a motivational seminar I was attending. You may not relate Yanni's music to be used at a seminar, but I found his music helped me focus, there were no words, but the instruments and the melody were uplifting, yet relaxing.

I asked the instructor about the music and he told me it was Yanni. The instructor told me he was a musician born in Greece, but now resides in the United States. He said Yanni's success was one that had an interesting background. Graduating from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in psychology he at one time played in rock bands. Growing up in a musical family, he had a natural ability for music. I was intrigued; I wanted to know more about this musical artist who inspired me.

I purchased the CD, Tribute, and fell in love with this music with no words. The music inspired my thinking in a positive way. I found I was recalling positive thoughts as I listened to it. Over the years I bought more of Yanni's CDs, The Very Best of Yanni, Soaring Free, Love Songs, to name only a few. With each CD his music gave me more motivation and provided a creative space within my mind.

In 2003 I had the opportunity to hear Yanni in concert on his Ethnicity Tour. A concert that created a memory that will last a lifetime! I could have sat all night and listened to him perform.

In addition, I was fortunate to receive Yanni in Words", his autobiography and finally was able to read about this very motivating individual. His story is an amazing one, one which is filled with life challenges, disappoints but one which also demonstrates perseverance, persistence and success.

Yanni's belief in music is demonstrated in his words:

"I believe music represents humanity's soul."

"You can say I'm a dreamer, as John Lennon once sang; I'm supposed to be a dreamer. I'm supposed to see how the world can be. I'm an artist."

"If our souls can come together in music, they can come together anywhere, and as a race we can achieve harmony and peace."

If you have never heard Yanni's music I would encourage you to get one of his CD's. It is music that you can listen, and at the same time listen to your own thoughts. I would refer to Yanni's work as music of wisdom, rather than words of wisdom.
