How You Accomplish Your Work
Poet:
, © 2012

How you accomplish your work,
Says a lot about who you are.
As many other things can,
Life can be very bizarre.

Do you attack your work,
With confidence that goes for miles?
Or do you approach with fear,
Having trouble tackling the piles?

To have confidence in your work,
Means you are self assured.
You love everything about your job,
And feel very secure.

If you approach with fear,
You’re usually not so sure.
The work you do makes you uncomfortable,
And you definitely don’t feel secure.

It often makes me wonder,
How people work in jobs they hate.
Sometimes they have no choice,
And other times they sit and wait.

For those who have a choice,
To do the work they love.
Count yourselves very lucky,
And remember to thank above.

Your Mission
Poet: Ellen M. H. Gates

If you cannot on the ocean
Sail among the swiftest fleet,
Rocking on the highest billows,
Laughing at the storms you meet;
You can stand among the sailors,
Anchored yet within the bay,
You can lend a hand to help them
As they launch their boats away.

If you are too weak to journey
Up the mountain steep and high,
You can stand within the valley.
While the multitudes go by;
You can chant in happy measure.
As they slowly pass along;
Though they may forget the singer
They will not forget the song.

If you cannot in the harvest
Garner up the richest sheaves
Many a grain, both ripe and golden,
Oft the careless reaper leaves;
Go and glean among the briars
Growing rank against the wall,
For it may be that their shadow
Hides the heaviest grain of all.

Do not, then, stand idly waiting,
For some greater work to do;
Fortune is a lazy goddess,
She will never come to you.
Go and toil in any vineyard,
Do not fear to do or dare,
If you want a field of labor.
You can find it anywhere.

What If
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2012

Asking “what if this” and “what if that”,
No good has ever come.
The questions that these words ask,
Are not as good as some.

“What if” really means the same,
As doubting what you’ve done.
You can’t go back and change the past,
What’s done is what is done!

“What if” also can be the words,
Spoke of thee unsure.
It’s just like those who speak the words,
I’ll try, instead of sure.

Saying words of so little power,
Is a wasted pun.
Not to mention the uncertainty,
You share with everyone.

Next time you find the words “what if”
Crossing your mind.
Replace them with more certain words,
Like “we should do” or “we should find”.

The worst thing any of us can do is,
Doubt ourselves from the start.
So think about the words you use,
And choose words that make you sound smart.

Teamwork Poems
Poet Unknown (thanks to Mandy for submitting)

Would you give your ALL for your team?
Would you give up time for you,
But give more to the team
If it would benefit the team?

Would you lay it all on the line for your team?
Would you gladly cheer from the sidelines for your team?
Would you take the time to say positive things to every teammate?
Would you be willing to be open-minded enough
To see everyone’s point of view – your coach’s included?

The one thing that “I” can do for a team,
Is to contribute the most “I” possibly can for my teammates.
Whether that is being a leader, a supporter, a motivator,
An instigator, an inspirer –

What “I” need to remember
Is that my part as a contributor helps my team the most.
When every “I” can come together as “we,”
Is when a team becomes successful.
When “I” am willing to do whatever it takes

To open my mind and see what is truly best
For my team, is when “I” become successful.
And that’s what “I” wanted in the 1st place, isn’t it?
Do you have what it takes?

Dig in. Contribute.
Open your mind,
Play the game.
Then, you will win.
