By Tina Sloan
Reviewed by Catherine Pulsifer
Three types of people should read this book:
- anyone who is getting older
- anyone who has enjoyed watching the Guiding Light
- and, anyone who has a mother or friend who is getting older
For anyone who is getting older, this is a great book to read. As women, we always seem to be busy and needed as our children grow, as our careers progress. But, then there comes a time in our life when we don't feel as needed and our lives, including our bodies, start changing. Tina Sloan shares her experiences, one which many women will be able to relate to.
For anyone who has enjoyed watching the Guiding Light, Tina describes her marvelous career with that show. She shares stories and thoughts about her years working with the cast of the show.
And, for anyone who has a mother or friend who is getting older, Tina writes in a way that helps others understand how at this time in life women go through a transition. It helps to read the experiences of others so you can relate to your Mom or friend who is getting older.
The book is one of inspiration, one that will make you smile, and one that tells an interesting story. We would recommend this book for women of all ages for sooner or later we will all age. The book is available at Amazon.
Some of our favorite inspirational quotes from the book:
"In most parts of our society, the idea of 'aging gracefully' seemed to be equated with 'gracefully' heading out to pasture."
"The years ahead are ours to won and cherish. We cannot let anything, least of all our age, stand in our way!"
"I KNOW aging is part of life as it spins down. And I know sixty is NOT the new forty. It is sixty with all those lessons."
"Whenever I see someone who is older but still looks divine, it reminds me that maintenance is power. It keeps us visible; it keeps us being SEEN."
"We need to be generous with the women following in our footsteps in the hope that they will be generous with us."
"Change often leads us somewhere interesting, whether we've looked for it or not."
"Our life's work does define a part of who we are, but we are so much more and now is the time to find the hidden person."
"There is perhaps nothing more rewarding for a parent than watching your child grow up and spread his wings - and for many, nothing more quietly heartbreaking at the same time."
"One of the best perks of growing older is being able to watch a whole NEW crop of family coming into the world."
"Nothing quite prepares you for the unsettling feeling of being called upon to care for those who once cared for you."
"And I think that in many ways, aging is like a marathon. There's no real glory in getting to the end - we all get there one day - but the key is to stay in the race and continue putting one foot in front of the other until we cross the finish line on our own terms."
"But the truth is that there are many walls in our lives that we have to face: Aging is one of them Laziness is another."
It's easy to reach this stage in life and feel like we've done it all, or that the best is behind us. But we can't fall into the trap of only thinking about the past , or talking about the past - we need a present, too."
"The ways in which we continue to grow as we get older can be as simple as taking a class at a local university."
"The years only go by faster as we age, and our days should be devoted to really LIVING."
"We have to depend on our own two feet and hope that they will take us in the right direction. They can. And they WILL."
