Opportunity
Poet: Henry Reed Conant

Time is ever swiftly fleeting,
Unimproved by scores of men;
Opportunities are passing
That we’ll never have again;
Many things we may accomplish,
As the hours go speeding on,
If we but improve each moment,
Ere the precious time is gone.
There are many hearts about us,
That a loving word might cheer;
There are many dear ones with us,
That ere long may not be here:
Let us then be wise and thoughtful,
As our course we journey on,
Striving for the good of others
Ere the precious time is gone.

Opportunities are passing that we'll never have again. Henry Reed Conant

Just A Minute
Poet: Nixon Waterman

Whene’er he faced a task and knew
He should begin it,
He could not start to put it through
For “just a minute.”
And, though the case demanded speed
He could not move just then; but he’d
Be ready for it, yes, indeed!
In “just a minute.”

His purposes were out of rhyme
By “just a minute.”
The whole world seemed ahead of time
By “just a minute.”
He could not learn to overhaul
His many duties, large and small,
But had to beg them, one and all,
To “wait a minute.”

In manhood he was still delayed
By “just a minute.”
He might have won, had Fortune stayed
For “just a minute.”
But at the end of life he railed
At “cruel Fate,” and wept and wailed
Because he knew that he had failed
By “just a minute.”

If I Could Tell You
W.H. Auden

Time will say nothing but I told you so,
Time only knows the price we have to pay;
If I could tell you I would let you know.

If we should weep when clowns put on their show,
If we should stumble when musicians play,
Time will say nothing but I told you so.

There are no fortunes to be told, although,
Because I love you more than I can say,
If I could tell you I would let you know.

The winds must come from somewhere when they blow,
There must be reasons why the leaves decay;
Time will say nothing but I told you so.

Perhaps the roses really want to grow,
The vision seriously intends to stay;
If I could tell you I would let you know.

Suppose all the lions get up and go,
And all the brooks and soldiers run away;
Will Time say nothing but I told you so?
If I could tell you I would let you know.

Your time is the one thing you can't pawn off on somebody else. Anita Dhake

What do you want to be doing? Are you doing it?”

There’s No Time Like The Present
Poet Unknown

There’s no time like the present;
To-morrow’s far away;
And what our hands may find to do,
God bids us do to-day.

Be ready in the golden
Now To do a helpful deed;
And never let the chance go by
To meet a sister’s need.

Don’t wait until another time,
For she who waits may lose
The grandest chance of all her life;
It is not ours to choose.

The opportunities to do,
They come at God’s behest,
And sue who never squanders one
Is she who lives the best

“When we spend our time looking at what other people do or what they have, we deprive ourselves of the opportunity to see our own value.”
Les Brown

Our Spectacles
Poet Unknown

If within our own homes we would use the same ” specs ”
That we use when we visit next door,
And search for the flaws as we did over there,
I think we would find many more.

If we’d use the same ” specs ” when we look at ourselves
That we don when our company’s near,
I fear we would need what would magnify less,
Or astonished we’d be, never fear!

But I find all possess (where’er they may live)
For their own use a kind deftly made,
With the glasses all darkened, to hide half the view,
So their own faults remain in the shade.

But the ones which they use when at others they glance
Have the glasses transparently clear,
With a power to magnify things twice the size
That the same through the dark ones appear.

Now I think that the world would much happier be
If the ” specs,” once for all, we would change,
And within our own rooms use the spectacles clear,
With the dark for the much broader range.

Then the faults that appear to us jaggedly rough
Would melt into outlines so fair
We would find that the world was a beautiful place,
And good people lived everywhere.
