Playing The Game
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2012

Some love and some hurt,
And others play their games.
They pretend to be your friend,
While behind your back are lighting flames.

These people are all around,
Some we know and some we don’t.
But eventually they are seen,
And are dismantled off their throne.

The only thing I can manage to say,
About people just like this,
Is they are very unhappy people,
And hurting others to them is bliss.

When it is that they are found,
You have a choice or two.
Remove them from your life,
Or play the game they play with you.

Playing the game with them,
Can bring you down to their level.
You’ll often feel fake and sometimes feel played,
But we sometimes have to entertain the devil.

If turning away is an option,
And sometimes this isn’t so.
Choose to live you life around people,
Who want you to be happy and grow.

Sometimes we can’t choose the people,
That fill our lives everyday.
But we will always have the option,
Of how often certain people can stay.

So decide on which people make you happy,
And choose people that want to see you grow.
Being around positive, strong people,
Will make you feel happier so.

A Smile
Poet Unknown

Let others cheer the winning man,
There’s one I hold worth while;
‘Tis he who does the best he can,
Then loses with a smile.

Beaten he is, but not to stay
Down with the rank and file;
That man will win some other day,
Who loses with a smile.

Sad As Happy
Poet: Joe Brown

If you look at something as being scary,
It is scary,
If you look at someone as pretty,
They are pretty,
The trick is to look at sad,
as happy.

Promise Yourself
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2012

Of all the things you can do,
Promise yourself you will try.
If doesn’t even matter if you win,
As long as you apply.

No one can ask of anything,
Of you, except yourself.
If you don’t want to make a move,
It’s you who’ll be left out.

So don’t allow yourself to miss,
Out on important things.
You may not feel that they are worthy,
Yet turn out to be your wings.

Experiences make us whole,
And make life feel fulfilled.
And when it’s time to look back,
Don’t let yourself feel unskilled.

So don’t allow yourself to stop,
For no apparent reason.
Promise yourself you will try,
And take on any season.

Always Finish
Poet Unknown

If a task is once begun
Never leave it till it’s done.
Be the labor great or small,
Do it well or not at all.

Time to Breathe
Poet: Dane Smidt

If you only knew the reason,
For the sudden change in season.
For the trouble that was caused,
And the life you put on pause.

Halting this life in such a way,
Made it hard to see a new day.
Burning this day in my skull,
Made it hard to reach even for a pull.

Almost losing all of my grasp,
Not much to grab on to nothing to clasp.
And in the end the message is clear,
With much to lose but nothing to fear.

Even though at times with nothing to see,
Strong perseverance will set you free.

My Wage
Poet: Jessie B. Rittenhouse

I bargained with life for a penny,
And life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store;

For life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of life,
Life would have paid.

I Did It
Poet: Julie Hebert, © 2017

I did it, I did it, its done,
It’s hard to believe that that’s true.
But I’m proof that it’s that time,
I stuck with it and saw it though.

It’s can be hard to finished the task,
Especially when it’s not fun.
But I reminded my self of the end,
And knew eventually it would be done.

I never stopped pushing forward,
I looked for that light to come close.
With hard work and patience I did it,
I think my excitement shows!

I did it, I did it, its done,
And I feel wonderful that it’s true.
My future is marching me forward,
My dreams I am looking forward to.

Difficult To Do
Poet: Wilhelmina Stitch

A thoughtful person said (so I have read)
It isn’t easy to apologize,
It isn’t easy when all hope has fled
To keep on going, but it’s very wise.

It isn’t easy to admit you’re wrong;
To swallow insult and to face a sneer;
It isn’t easy to sing loud and long
When you are in the clutch of deadly fear.

It isn’t easy, friend to try again
When you have come a cropper-but it’s best.
To scorn a failure and to laugh at pain
Is but to prove that you have stood life’s test.

It isn’t easy when hot temper flares
To subjugate it to sweet reason’s sway.
When fretted by a horde of pressing cares,
It’s hard to keep on smiling through the day.

When clouds are black and hanging very low,
It’s hard to see the silver lining, friend.
None of these things are easy, this we know,
But aren’t they worth the struggle in the end?
