Do You Fold

There is nothing like a little hot water to start changing things in one’s life. It is something like the story I read recently where a carrot, egg and coffee beans were thrust into hot water to boil for a while. As it turns out, the carrot became soft, while the egg became hard and the coffee beans took on a beautiful aroma.
How We React
Life is much the same and we don’t know how we will react until we are set into some boiling turmoil of one kind or another. Some of us think that we are able to cope and deal with any kind of problems or challenges that come are way only to find out that we cannot overcome our issues. Others who do not think they can manage to beat whatever is troubling them come out in flying colors and are much stronger after the ordeal than before.
One of the things that I have observed over time about people who fold when the going gets tough is that they are usually the ones that think they are able to handle everything alone. They feel that they do not need a support group, a friend or a confidant to assist them.
Successful People
The most successful people in the world can give us a true picture of how to overcome and beat the odds that appear stacked against them.
Most of us are quite familiar with a lot of success stories but one thing that is not often elaborated on is how these successful people met and overcame problems or challenges. Sure, they had to have an unwavering positive attitude, and the dedication and perseverance of a goat foraging for food. But, they also had something else. They had help of one kind or another.
A Helping Hand
It is one thing to be strong but it is quite another to be strong and understand that any issues or obstacles can be tackled with more confidence when you have someone by your side. It doesn’t have to be someone that does anything in a direct way to help you, it can be as simple as lending you an attentive ear so that you can talk through your current issues. I for one always find it a lot easier to talk through the issues with someone trustworthy whom can both listen and be an active challenger of my thinking. The old story is true: two heads are better than one.
If you look at professional athletes, you will always see a coach along with them helping them improve as they go along and offering tidbits of useful advice. We could all use a coach on our side, so why not develop this attitude and make your life just a little bit easier. After all, wouldn’t you give a lending hand to someone who needed just a little bit of encouragement or a friendly ear? Sure you would.
