An Example
Let’s assume you are a welder or pipe fitter and just do not want to do this strenuous or dirty work anymore no matter how much money you make per hour.
Well, there may be an option for you to become and inspector where your role changes from doing the welding, for example, to one where you inspect the welds after they are completed.
Or, you may be able to a role of welding instructor at a local college, or as a trade school teacher. In these cases, you are taking a skill you already possess and elevating it to a different level. You may have to take a couple of extra courses to do this kind of work but these courses may be on a part-time basis, or done in a slow period where you would normally take time off anyway.
If you are a welder, for example, you already have periods of time off between jobs, and you may also have the opportunity to accept more union calls to keep working for longer periods of time than you would normally agree to. In this case, this extra or continued work would allow you to save up enough money so that you could take off for the necessary time to complete advanced courses for an inspector, for example. Or, to take courses that would qualify you for a trades school instructor, or a college instructor.
This Is Your Life
It isn’t just your on-going enjoyment that is an issue here but your performance is also affected by your attitude towards work. If you don’t enjoy what you do, the quality and productivity of your work will reflect your negative thinking.
Set goals for yourself to obtain work in a field you would enjoy if you are in a job you don’t enjoy. Treasure each day because when it’s gone, you can never get it back.
