The Purpose Of Life
Author: Byron Pulsifer, ©2012
It may be that you never given any real thought to determine your purpose
of life. It may also be that you believe that anything you dedicate
yourself to is your purpose. Or, it may be that you think that the
purpose of life is to get ahead by being successful enough
to afford what you want or desire.
Here are a few statements that you may wish to ask yourself before we proceed further with this discussion.
Do Any Of These Statements Fit With Your Purpose Of Life?
My purpose is:
1) The desire and intent to ensure that all my negative thoughts and feelings
are buried so that only the positive,
thoughtful and positive feelings see
the light of day.
2) The wherewithal to put my feelings and needs of my family
in the forefront before they need to ask me or beg me for understanding.
3) Take desire to give to my friends
and not just think about what
they do for me.
4) Not take myself so serious; the shadow that I cast should be at the
front of me and not at the back.
5) Make myself visible and known for being genuine and
not living in a phony world where others prefer to live.
6) To be able to see beyond my own concerns and to really
see what others must contend with. I am not the only one with issues,
concerns or life challenges.
7) While I may be vibrant and full of life looking for new horizons
to cross, there are also those who are nearing the end of their life cycle.
I strive to be conscious of their concerns and fears, be a friend, be
and not so fast to dismiss their needs knowing that one day I
will be there too.
8) I may be grown and able to cast a vision of my future but
I should also be aware of the needs and concerns of little children
who could use my kindness, compassion and guidance.
Your Life's Purpose
We are all put on this earth for a reason and that reason is not solely
about you. One thing that comes to mind is that the old adage
of it is better to give than to receive holds within its' meaning
several keys to living a purposeful life. Let's investigate this notion
a little further.
Giving In Life To Receive
What is the personal satisfaction in giving?
Some people would say that it is a fulfilling feeling. This feeling means
that there is warmth from helping others. The giving does not have
to be to someone you know either. To give to assist or help a
stranger is to extend your humanness without asking to whom it will be given.
It is not necessary to know the person or persons for this warmth generates
an internal feeling that you are in a fortunate or blessed
situation where you have the means to help those who don't have
what you have.
There Is Never A Shortage
If you wonder whether there will ever be a time that helping those who are
less fortunate will be gone, I can affirm that this wll not be the case.
Some people seem to think that third world countries are the only
places where poverty swells and people require much assistance.
This feeling or conclusion is not true. Take for example the use of food banks
across North America or the need for food stamps.
Determining To Aid Others For A Life Purpose
You will not have to look far to find opportunities
to assist others
even in your own neighborhood. There are many families, despite working,
have challenges making ends meet. Some are single parents with or
without children but it those with children who face daily challenges.
Some of the daily issues are as straightforward as not having enough
food to go around the table never mind the lack of funds to pay the power,
heating or insurance bills. These are often people who desperately want
to work but are unable to do so for a variety of health reasons.
Then, there are others who can work but would be only able to work
at jobs that pay minimum wage. These wages do not give these people
enough money to feed, clothe or pay bills.
The Road Of Compassion As Life Purpose
There are those who shy away from giving unless they are forced into it.
Then, there are others who only give when it is convenient to do so, or, in
other words, after they have ensured that everything they want and
desire has been secured.
The real road of compassion, that is, giving, helping, assistance and
community service, is a road that can be set and declared as your
life's purpose. Just so you are aware, though, this does not mean that
you cannot have nice things, or a nice house or enjoy some of the fruits
of your labor. What it does mean, however, is that your mind is
more focused on the needs of others than your own desires.
There is a big difference in thinking when one understands that you are
not depriving yourself of the necessities of life. Instead, your necessities
of life are redefined by determining if you really need something as
opposed to wanting something.
Bigger Purpose Than Self
You have a bigger purpose on this earth than just thinking about yourself.
It is up to you to live and breath putting the breath of life and understanding
into everything you do and think. The harvest is great and the workers are
small. There is plenty of work that needs to be done and it is a choice
that everyone needs to make. There is something internally rewarding when
your life is set on helping rather than thinking that you deserve what you have.
Everyone deserves, everyone is a person of worth, and everyone
needs a helping hand at some point in their life.
Just think of the times that you needed a friend to help you.
This help may have been offered freely when you lost a loved one;
it may have been assistance to handle a difficult work place issue;
it may have been assisting you in completing a small or big project at home;
or it may have simply been a shoulder to cry on or a willing ear to listen
to what was bothering you. Everyone needs help at some point.

thoughts to consider: "Beginning today, treat everyone you meet
as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care,
kindness, and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought
of any reward. Your life will never be the same again."
Are you willing?
"You can give in to the failure messages and be a bitter deadbeat of excuses. Or you can choose to be happy and positive and excited about life." A. L. Williams
"Every one of us can blame somebody for something that has happened in our lives. But don't waste your time. What we need most is a steady stream of love flowing among us. Love that quickly forgives, willingly overlooks, and refuses to take offense." Charles Swindoll

"When hardship occurs, it is easy to focus on hurt feelings attributed to the individuals you thought would show up that don't - but I encourage you to instead embrace all the individuals that come out of the woodwork and surprise you." Steph Gold, Now Is YOUR Time
