60 Listening Quotes

I have a great tip for becoming a better listener! It’s a really useful technique that I learned in the military – because I knew I’d get in trouble if I wasn’t paying attention, (and I used to be a bit of a daydreamer). It’s saved me many many times and I still use it to this day when I’m on long video calls and find my mind wandering. So if you’re easily distracted, or find listening to someone who isn’t a natural communicator… here’s my tip:

In your mind, repeat every word of what the person is saying just after they say it. So it’s kind of like you’re hearing yourself say it as well as hearing them say it. This achieves two important aims 1) it means that you’re really focusingand 2) it means your brain gets to hear the content twice. Next time you’re talking with a friend or significant other (or even if you’re watching TV), give it a try! You’ll find that you remember more of what the person said and you’ll find yourself avoiding distractions, because you’re having to listen so intently. Some people say this technique helps them become an ‘active listener’.

Improving our communication abilities is something we should all aim to do. So I hope these Listening Quotes remind you that being attentive and really listening to others is the BEST way to form a connection with them. Enjoy!
